Black Belt Martial arts Program in - Gananoque, Nanaimo, Kingston East & West, Ladysmith

SHAKU’s Black Belt Training Program is our main training program for students committed to experiencing all the benefits that the martial arts have to offer.  It is a comprehensive program of study that will develop a student all the way to Black Belt.  Students do not choose to commence study in the Black Belt Program but rather work hard in Basic Orientation to meet the eligibility requirements for entrance into the Black Belt Program.

The course of study for the Black Belt Program is an exciting and challenging blend of various traditional and contemporary martial arts.  These include Kempo Karate, Shaolin Kung-Fu, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Escrima.  The philosophy behind learning an eclectic system of martial arts is the belief that no single martial art is better than another.  The philosophies embraced at SHAKU are those of inclusion and acceptance of differences.  Within the martial arts world there are thousands of styles and systems of training.  At SHAKU, we choose to focus on the best training practices and lessons among the arts and promote the teaching and learning of both traditional and contemporary methodologies.

In addition to the physical martial arts training, each SHAKU school delivers a comprehensive character education and personal development program as part of each students study towards earning their Black Belt.  This program is delivered through monthly school themes related to the core values of the martial arts.  These themes are explored through daily instructor led "mat chats" and subsequently reinforced via take home assignments and activities.  This approach to develop the body and mind of the student is one of the distinctions of the SHAKU Black Belt Program.

Ultimately, each SHAKU student has different areas of strength and personal interest.  Some students excel at forms (patterns of rehearsed movements) while others find their forte in competition sparring or fitness and conditioning training.  Others still may find fascination in the history and philosophy of the arts.  The diversity of the SHAKU program allows every student to develop into a well rounded martial artist while providing specific avenues of study for the achievement of personal excellence in the martial arts, at school, at work and in life.

Some of SHAKU's Black Belt graduates have gone on to compete to be Western Canadian competition champions while others have applied their skills to earn academic scholarships to University; acknowledging their Black Belt dedication, discipline and work ethic.  The Black Belt Program supports the personal goals and accomplishments of each student.

Many of our Black Belt Program students choose to expand their knowledge in one or more areas of the arts through participation in SHAKU's Leadership Program.

All our SHAKU™ schools are proud to offer a 30-Day no-risk  trial to enable students, parents and instructors sufficient time to evaluate the suitability of our programs.  If you would like to explore this option for you or your child, just FILL OUT THIS FORM and an instructor will call you to schedule a school orientation meeting.  Please mention that you found us on the web and you will receive a complimentary uniform at no charge!
